We design accessible web sites on the regular web, so accessibility is even more important on our mobile website. Although website accessibility is always a priority on good websites, mobile accessibility is finally starting to become important to everyone with a mobile business website, since customers find accessible websites very user friendly. It's why we use access keys, an accessible menu, colors that offer good contrast, readable fonts, valid web pages and stylesheets, good page titles and simple text links. Mobile accessible includes being able to simply phone you. We included a phone link on every page, press accesskey 9 to call from a mobile phone.
As W3C says
Most Mobile Web specialists don't know about design issues for people with disabilities. Likewise, most Web accessibility specialists don't know Mobile Web design best practices.
Our mobile designers understand both, accessibility and mobile.
The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect.
Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web
Although W3C developed the Website Accessibility Initiative (56KB) back in 1999, most of the sites on the World Wide Web are still not accessible. Access to information has been declared a basic human right by the United Nations and others. Most web designers just don't want to get it! If they can't even design an accessible site for the regular web, how can they understand the mobile web? Now we have the Mobile web initiative, most designers will continue to ignore the mobile web best practices as well. Accessible websites are important to everyone who uses the mobile web.
